the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms will increase this afternoon and evening
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Storms are expected to kick in and track towards central MS this afternoon and evening. Heavy to severe thunderstorms will also be possible during this time when large hail and damaging wind gusts are our primary concern, but a tornado cannot be ruled out either. Areas south and west of Jackson have the greatest potential for seeing large hail. Stay up to date with the weather today! Scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely move through the area through the evening before the weather begins to improve this evening. Expect low temperatures to bottom out in the 50s overnight.
Besides a slight chance for a lingering shower during the early morning hours, Monday will consist of calmer conditions. We will start the day with clouds throughout the region before seeing gradual clearing by tomorrow afternoon and into the evening. The high temperatures may struggle to warm up a bit in the wake of the front and with the clouds, but we should reach the upper 60s and lower 70s.
The rest of the week will also be characterized by mostly calm weather. It has been suggested that a few stray showers may try to sneak in late Wednesday, but that is uncertain at this time. A gradual warming will also occur this week where high temperatures will rise back into the mid 80s by the end of the week before next weekend.
