The Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association (MNLA) has elected to expand its popular plastic garden pot recycling program by offering the general public the opportunity to participate! Just bring clean, black plastic garden pots to the drop sites listed below, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on two weekends only Sept. 23-24 or Sept. 31-Oct. 1 and receive 10%* off regularly priced merchandise and other savings at the garden center drop site location.
Plastic garden pots of any size should be cleaned in advance and free of wire hangers. The pots must be black in color to be accepted. No household plastic will be accepted.
The MNLA began the environmental initiative so that green industry professionals could recycle plastic garden pots in the spring of 2006. Although still in its infancy, the project is already considered a success with over 16 tons of plastic collected and recycled by industry members during the first 4 months.
We have been very pleasantly surprised at the response from MNLA member companies to recycle their plastic pots, said MNLA President Tim Power. Our hope is to impact how the horticultural industry assists in managing this annual 350 million pound waste system in the U.S. , and to change the public view of recycling into one that inspires product development. We now hope that consumers will take advantage of this great opportunity as well.
