2003 Annual and Perennial Trial Results
Acer platanoides Deborah Norway Maple is certainly one of those trees that we plant for the next generation. Yes, it frost cracks and has a boring yellow fall color; but, if you have ever seen one of these trees that was planted 30 years ago or its forefather Schwedleri that has been in the ground for 50 years or more, you will understand. In the spring when other trees are sporting green, Deborah sprouts out these brilliant reddish leaves that turn bronze green as they grow and can end up to be bigger than your hand. This heavy, dense-leafed tree can shade a whole back yard by itself and its ascending branches are so perfect that no child can resist its invitation to climb. Zone 4-7
