A Successful Parade of Landscapes Generates $10,000 for Charity
Landscape and garden enthusiasts reaching from the Twin Cities to western Wisconsin enjoyed viewing flower gardens , ponds and streams , pavers and patios , boulders and retaining walls , beautifully manicured lawns, and professionally installed irrigation systems during this year's inaugural Parade of Landscapes.
Held the last weekend in June over 50 landscapes were available for viewing on this self-guided tour. More than 1,000 people had an opportunity to see these beautifully landscaped yards and gardens.
The Parade of Landscapes was presented by the Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association as a fundraiser for the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. The Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery works in partnership with parents in crisis and the community to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.
With all extra donations and guidebook sale proceeds, this year's Tour raised a total of $10,000 for the Crisis Nursery, said Bob Fitch, executive director of the Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association. We hope that our great partnership with the children and employees of the Nursery will continue to grow in future years.
What was especially exciting about being a part of the Parade of Landscapes was seeing the variety of work done by local contractors, explained Fitch. MNLA landscape contractors have truly outdone themselves with magnificent landscapes and jaw-dropping features that the public now had a chance to see first hand!
We'd also like to give a warm thank you to our landscape homeowners who participated in this year's Tour, Fitch emphasized. The homeowners are so gracious and very willingly opened their homes to share their beautiful landscapes with the Tour attendees. Without them it wouldn't be possible!
Sponsors of the Parade of Landscapes were: Anchor Block Company, Hydrologic, Inc., and Hedberg Landscape Supplies.
KARE 11 television provided community-wide exposure for the event and additional support was also given by Bailey Nurseries, Sylva Corporation, MNLA Irrigation Industry Committee, and the Minnesota State Horticultural Society.
