Coronavirus Update: Pacific Brands, Bonds, Bras N Things, Sheridan Latest Store Closures
Another 3,000 retail workers will be laid off Tuesday as Hanes Brands closes in Australia.
Hanes Brands is the parent company of Pacific Brands which owns the famous Bonds label.
In a statement, Hanes announced the closure of 450 stores in Australia, including Bonds, Bras N Things, Champion and Sheridan.
“We have done our best to keep our stores open and our employees safe and on the job,” said David Bortolussi, Group President, Hanes Brands.
“However, with the announcement by the federal and state governments (…) of increasingly stringent measures (…) we now have no choice but to close all our store networks across the country. ‘Australia, to protect our store teams and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

Stores will close indefinitely from Tuesday afternoon.
Hanes will continue to pay full wages to all staff for at least two weeks after the stores close.

Staff will then be able to access all of their leave rights, including annual leave and seniority leave, if so.
After that, they will have to take unpaid leave.
Hanes Australasia has closed around 40 stores in the United States, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom following the closure of non-essential services in those regions.
