Since 1978, the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association has sponsored a Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional (CNLP) program for individuals in the nursery and landscape industry. Since its inception, more than 750 individuals have achieved the certified status.

Prerequisites for attaining the CNLP standing include two years of study in an accredited post-secondary program of nursery and/or landscape education, or one year of full-time employment in the nursery and landscape industry. Having fulfilled this prerequisite, individuals may then take a comprehensive CNLP examination, which tests their knowledge of a wide variety of industry-related topics. Those that pass the exam receive the CNLP designation. Continuing education and participation in industry improvement activities are required for maintaining the certified status. By focusing on individuals, the program encourages self-improvement and provides recognition to those who have advanced their professional knowledge.

Consumers who work with Minnesota Certified Nursery and Landscape Professionals, and with businesses that employ CNLPs, are assured that they are working with the very finest businesses and individuals that the nursery and landscape industry in Minnesota has to offer.
