Residential Front Yard Design
 |
Wendy Loomis, Buells Landscape Center
Hastings, Minnesota
Loomis designed and installed this project in 1997 on a three-quarter acre lot near Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo. All plant material was selected to give four-season color and interest in each area. Each year is a new creation with annuals, pots, and over 5000 spring bulbs. |
Perennial Garden Design
 |
Karen Jurewicz, Gerten Greenhouses
Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota Jurewicz created a colorful, textural, and hardy perennial garden that was low maintenance for this client that lives on a large lot overlooking Bald Lake in Eagan. Pathways were added to the backyard and lake with colorful gardens among the retaining walls. Remaining hardscapes were softened with plant materials, and a welcoming garden was added to compliment the large brick driveway. |
Specialty Projects Design
 |
Ray Campbell, Lost Eden Ponds
Monticello, Minnesota
Campbell’s client wanted a solution for a three-year old cement pond that was leaking and cracking. The stream was reshaped, and three pond areas were added. Specialty rocks of mica, glacial boulders, apache stone, aqua blue, and Laverne were used. Water plants and fish were added to enhance this functional and natural looking waterscape. |
Residential Full Yard Design
 |
Paul Mayhew, Wyngate Companies
Vadnais Heights, Minnesota
Mayhew’s goal with this project was to create planting opportunities throughout the yard, enhance views, and lead people into and through the yard. Highlights of his project include redesigning the driveway, adding a planting screen of evergreens and perennials, creating an aggregate walkway with gardens, and making an extended walkway with a small island planting. |
Commercial Design
|
Richard Woldorsky, Bachman’s Inc.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Woldorsky’s project was a privately funded neighborhood improvement agency in south Minneapolis. The goal was to create a welcoming and attractive public space on a commercial block by connecting the public sidewalk to entrances for other organizations that open onto a courtyard. Boulevard and ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials, and sod were installed to provide a welcoming and public social space. |
Hardscapes Design
 |
Tom Haugo, Bachman’s Inc.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Haugo’s project was to correct a poor circulation pattern with steps to this three-season porch and patio. The porch was removed and a clay paver patio was installed. Pergola and a trellis were added, as well as plantings. |
Residential Front Yard/Entry Design
 |
C. Elaine Brubaker, Brubaker Landscape Designs
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Brubaker’s client wanted to eliminate the existing turf along this modest residence in Minneapolis. A new entry was designed and a walkway was created that wraps around a focal hill and to the existing front door risers. The entry walkway was built with Hollandstone pavers and accented with glacial boulder groupings, a rock stairway, and plantings. |
Hardscapes Design
 |
Bob Swanson, Meadowood, Inc.
Plymouth, Minnesota
Swanson’s client recently remodeled their kitchen and eating area, and wanted a pleasant space for outdoor family gatherings and dining. The large stoop/platform design allows easier access to the main floor, and the sitting walls maximize usable space. The outcome was multiple access points to the backyard and a wonderful view of the existing woodland gardens. |
Residential Full-Yard Design
 |
Tad Anderson, Anderson Design Services
Minnetonka, Minnesota
More outdoor living space and additional color and texture in their garden and landscaping areas were the goals for this project. Anderson added new walkways, steps, boulder work modifications, paver breakfast patio, upper firepit, patio, benching, and plantings. The design resulted in easier access from the front yard to the back porch and outdoor areas, and many meals enjoyed within the porch and patio. |
